The History of West Allis: A Community Presentation
Wednesday, Jan. 8 | 6 p.m.
West Allis City Hall Common Council Chambers, 7525 W. Greenfield Ave.
Many people know that West Allis took the “Allis” portion of the City’s name from the Allis Chalmers Company, but where did the “West” come from? Did you know that the area now known as West Allis was originally known as North Greenfield? And what’s up with the pagoda-style Seneca Gas Station at 76th and National Ave.?
Join West Allis Historical Society President Devan Gracyalny on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. for a fun, entertaining trip through West Allis history from our first European settlement in 1837 to becoming a city in 1906, to where we are today. Learn about the monolithic manufacturing facilities that help West Allis grow in the early part of the twentieth century, and about the new industries redeveloping those manufacturing sites today. Reminisce about the good ol’ days of shopping at JC Penney in downtown West Allis, and having fun at Western Days. Devan’s vast knowledge and humorous storytelling style make history a delight to experience! Lifelong residents and neighbors from other communities alike will laugh and learn with Devan.
“The History of West Allis: A Community Presentation” will be held in the City Hall Common Council Chambers, 7525 W. Greenfield Ave. All are welcome to learn more about West Allis’ rich history!
