The West Allis Historical Society hosts numerous events throughout the year. We hope you can join us to celebrate West Allis history!
Doors Open Milwaukee
September 22 – 23
Doors Open Milwaukee is a two-day public celebration of Milwaukee’s art, architecture, culture and history. This event offers behind the scenes tours of more than 150 buildings throughout Milwaukee’s downtown and neighborhoods and 40+ ticketed tours led by community leaders. West Allis historical buildings, including Wadham’s Seneca Station, the West Allis Historical Society Museum, and Inspiration Studios have been featured in past Doors Open events.
4 West Allis properties will be open for tours during the 2018 Doors Open event:
Cream City Clay – 7105 W. Greenfield Ave.
Cream City Clay, Inc. is located in the heart of downtown West Allis on the Corner of 71st and Greenfield Ave., one block from Allis Chambers. Originally clad in cream city brick, the pottery school and studio proudly inhabits a beautiful red brick building constructed in 1904.
First Baptist Church of West Allis – 1576 S 78th St.
First Baptist Church of West Allis is one of the oldest churches in the Milwaukee area having served the community for 177 years. Visitors will have the opportunity to look around, join guided tours, and will learn about the early years in the farm community, which became Honey Creek Settlement, then North Greenfield, and finally West Allis.
Inspiration Studios – 1500 S. 73rd St.
Built in 1930 as Schubal & Slattery Funeral Home, this beautiful brick structure has rare characteristics reminiscent of a miniature castle. With the help of over 100 volunteers, Inspiration Studios opened its doors in the heart of West Allis, housing an art gallery, community theatre, and writing lab. Visitors will experience a first hand look at the workings behind Erico’s Gallery, the Village Playhouse, and Christi Craig’s Writing Studio through both guided and self guided tours.
Neuhaus Pianos – 8111 W. Greenfield Ave.
Neuhaus Pianos is Southeastern Wisconsin’s oldest family owned piano shop and store. They will be demonstrating these machines as well as showing the process of what it takes to rebuild them.
